I logged onto my computer and went to Google so that I can start my homework. When I went on Goggle Yahoo.com popped up onto my screen and a interesting title appeared. "What Texting Does To Your Spine (OMG!)" and i said this seems interesting because I text and I know that many teenagers in this society as well as young adults text too much. The article said that According to a new study in Surgical Technology International, craning the neck over a cell phone to text, tweet, or check Facebook can exert an extra 60 pounds of weight on the head of an adult, leading to potential spinal problems. Reading this was very interesting and to me because I know people who send hundreds of thousands of texts a week. The article also said Most people spend two to four hours a day on phones and other tech gadgets (that includes Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, Snap chat,YouTube, and ect) , resulting in at least an extra 700 to 1,400 hours of stress on the neck and spine each year. I don't text a lot and try not to because I know it is a distraction and i'm happy I don't because of reading this article. Now I will be very mindful when I use my cell phone and electronic devices that have my neck craning and I hope you do to.

My ID Post

     This year which is my senior year I have 8 classes. I have Ms. Tomlin which is government, Mr. Rich which is statistics, Ms. Hegeman which is my English class, Ms.Young which is my college readiness class, Ms. Bartoli which is my forensics class, Mr. Gillespy my physical education class, Mr. Dejean which is my art studies teacher and Mr. Washington who is my community service teacher. In Ms. Tomlin's class we are learning about the government. So that means were learning about the federal government, Supreme Court, voting and ect. We had one project so far and one coming up. The project coming up is called "Analyzing a Supreme Court Case" in this project we have to research, write, and present a Landmark Supreme Court case. We have to have a written report and a power point presentation. I think the purpose of this government class is to inform us on ideals of government, the foundations of the US government, the United States Constitution, and Federalism. This class will help us in the real world because we need to know about our government and history as it changes day by day. I believe all my classes are important in a different way and will help to shape our senior year. 

What we did today in class

Today in Ms. Hegeman's class we had another Socratic Seminar. The Socratic Seminar was based on the book Fahrenheit 451 and the article from the Los Angles Times “Teenage social media butterflies may not be such a bad idea". In the Socratic Seminar we needed to use evidence from any text we used, have great leadership skills and come prepared. We had a total of two Socratic Seminars one on Wednesday 29th and one today Thursday 30th. In the first seminar on the 29th there was not a lot of evidence from the texts in the Socratic Seminar, there were plenty of questions and different discussions. While the second Socratic Seminar there was more evidence found in the text to reference to. Of course in both Socratic Seminars there were some people who didn't participate and I think it was because they didn't know the best time to come in and was not prepared overall. In class today we also had a grammar rule to learn today which was grammar rule 5 avoid fragments.

My Passion

     There are many passions that someone can have, for example cooking, singing, painting, playing sports, sewing, swimming and ect. But my passion is traveling and listening to music. The definition of passion is a strong feeling of enthusiasm or excitement for something or about doing something. When the topic of traveling and music comes up I feel passion. I have a passion for traveling because there are so many places around the world you can explore. To me I believe that there is more than New York City so traveling is the best way to escape. When you travel you get to explorer new cultures and meet new people sometimes. I traveled before because I've been on two cruises and it was fun and full of adventure to explore the Caribbean. It was fun on my two cruises beaus i was with my family and got to go on tours, go on the beach, shop and have some delicious food. As I get older I plan to travel to more exciting destinations. 

     I also have a passion for music i love to listen to music all the time. I love listening to music because it relaxes me and keeps me calm. When I am upset I can listen to music, when I am sad I can listen to music, when I am happy I can listen to music it never fails me. There is always a song for the mood that you are feeling. Sometimes I go to Pandora to listen to music or ill go to youtube or even listen to the music on my phone. I don’t think there is ever a day I go without listening to music. I listen to music while I am on my way somewhere or when I do homework or simply before I go to bed I listen to a song or two. I have such a strong passion for music that i'm not sure what I would do without it.  

Socratic Seminar

     On Tuesday October 14 and Thursday October 16 in my third period class we have been having Socratic Seminars. We have had two Socratic Seminars so far and both Socratic Seminars was not bad. Usually during a Socratic Seminar there is a group of people who have a discussion on a question and have everyone in the group share their opinion, ideas, and thoughts. Socratic seminars aren't new to me at all; my first time participating in a Socratic Seminar was in ninth grade and continued to twelfth. So when Ms. Hegeman told us that we had to do a Socratic Seminar it was predictable that we was going to do it in twelfth grade. In the Socratic Seminar we talked about the use of technology and how it affects us (teens).

       Everyone in the seminar had to ask a question and out of all the questions collectively as a group we pick one to discuss. I chose a quote and my question was on the quote that I asked. "Video games don't make the hole, they fill it" do you agree or disagree with this statement that dean made? We did not use my question but we had eight minuets to talk non-stop on this topic. During a Socratic Seminar what happens typically is that it is the same people speaking while the others in the group just stay quiet. when this happens it is recommended by our teacher that we invite them into the discussion so they can be apart. Socratic Seminars are interesting and informs you on other peoples opinions, i hope we get to do more in class.

Reality TV

Today in class we were in groups and had to read articles and talk about them. The topic of the articles was about reality tv. Today I learned a lot about reality tv, I learned that theirs no script but they have writers who craft plot lines and create conflict/shape a story. I really don't watch many reality tv shows but reading the article I read to day "13 Secrets Reality TV Show Producers Won't Tell You" changed my views on reality tv. When I saw the secret that said celebrities scheme more than anyone I found that pretty obvious. Even though I had a feeling that reality tv shows were kind of fake it is still surprising to me after I read the articles.

A lot to think about

I have a lot to think about now being a senior in college. I need to think of a college, getting accepted,a major, a bunch of senior activities,sat,act, and ect. So far I learned that if I want to really go to a specific college then I need to apply early. I also learned that senior year is very expensive, you have to pay senior dues, a senior trip, prom, pictures, a ring, and that about a thousand not including college!! It is stressful but all I can do is take each day one at a time and be cautious when it comes to my school work because this is 12th grade and their is no time to be failing. So far senior year isn't really stressful to me its just an eye opener and keeping me busy. I just going to keep doing what I have been doing and not trying to get stressed yet because  it is only the second month of school. This senior year will be full with excitement and happiness I cant wait let the fun begin Class or 2015!
